Garden tours part    of Extension party    Polk County-Oregon State University Extension will hold its end-of-year celebration Wednesday (today), starting with tours of the Master Gardeners Inspiration Garden at Mountain Fir Park on Seventh Street in Independence.    Garden tours will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The celebration will follow at 7 p.m. at Calvary Chapel, 1399 Monmouth St., Independence. The event is free.    For more information: 503-623-8395.    Youth flying event    slated for Saturday    Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 292 will host a Young Eagles program Saturday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Independence State Airport, EAA Hanger, 4803 Airport Road.    The program is for youth aged 8 to 17, giving them an opportunity to learn about aviation and take a flight in a general aviation airplane.    All Young Eagles receive ground school training, a 15-minute flight, a picture and an official EAA Young Eagles certificate. They also will receive a Young Eagles logbook. Middle and high school students will get a code to access Sporty’s Complete Flight Training course for free.    All youth must have a registration form signed by a parent or guardian.    For more information about Young Eagles: www.eaa292.org/young-eagles.    Local leaf casting    workshop planned    Dancing Oaks Nursery southwest of Monmouth is the site of a concrete leaf casting workshop Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.    Participants will learn the techniques to create their own concrete garden sculptures from leaves. Cost is $35 and all materials are provided.    Preregistration is required for the class taught by Diana Goings at 17900 Priem Road. Class size is limited.    For more information: 503-838-6058; www.dancingoaks.com; email to dancingoaksnursery@gmail.com.    Acting workshop set    at Pentacle Theatre    Registration is open for Pentacle Theatre’s summer “acting for everyone” workshop, which begins June 21 at the theater, 324 52nd Ave. NW, West Salem.    Director and actress Jo Dodge, who has taught the class since 1981, will lead students through the 11-week workshop held on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.    Actors of all skill levels and ages may participate, though those younger than 18 are required to have parental consent in order to attend.    Cost for the workshop is $105, with a nonrefundable $15 administrative fee.
