RICKREALL — A house fire displaced a Rickreall family and caused heavy damage to a home Monday night. Crews from Dallas, Polk Fire District No. 1 and Southwest Polk Rural Fire Protection District responded to a report of a porch fire at about 8 p.m. Monday. Firefighters arrived to find the back porch and wall on fire at a two-story home at 9350 Rickreall Road. Electrical wires were sparking in the blaze and crews had to fight the fire from the perimeter until the power could be shut off. “That allowed it to spread a little farther than we wanted, but you can’t put firefighters in danger like that,” said Dallas Fire Chief Fred Hertel. He said all occupants of the home escaped without injury and the Red Cross responded to assist the family with immediate needs. The cause of the fire still was under investigation Tuesday morning at press time. In all, about 40 firefighters from the three agencies worked for more than three hours to put out the fire. No firefighters were hurt on the call. Hertel said the home was about a 50 percent loss. He didn’t know if the family owned or rented the house or if it was insured.
