Life jacket loaner stand opens

INDEPENDENCE — The Sea Tow Foundation has opened a new life jacket loaner stand at the Independence Boat Ramp.    The station is funded through donations, as well as a grant from the Sport Fish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund, administered by the U.S. Coast Guard.    The stands let boaters on the Willamette River who need an extra life jacket or properly fitting personal-floatation device borrow one or more free of charge to take onboard with them, helping to keep themselves and their passengers safer on the water, according to a press release from the Sea Tow Foundation.    The boat ramp location is in addition to the life jacket loaner station at Riverview Park.    For more information about the Sea Tow Foundation and its life jacket loaner program, go online and visit
