Polk Pedalers plan Saturday bike ride

DALLAS — The Polk Pedalers Bicycle Club has scheduled its next ride for Saturday.

The group will meet at Perrydale School, 7445 Perrydale Road, at 8 a.m. for a ride that will start in Perrydale, head to Amity, then go to Ballston and back to Perrydale.

The ride is 30 miles in length and considered easy in terms of difficulty. All are welcome to participate, though children must have an adult accompany them. Helmets are recommended. There is no cost to participate. Food will be available at each stop.

Summerfest Fun Run is coming up

DALLAS — Registration is underway for the 2014 Dallas Summerfest Fun Run, scheduled July 26.

There are four events — a 10K run, a 5K run, a 5K walk and a kids/adult fun run and walk — with the 10K run beginning at 8 a.m. The 5K run/walk will start at 8:30 a.m. and the kids/adult fun run and walk starts at 9 a.m.

All races start outside the Dallas Radio Shack on Jefferson Street and finish in front of the Polk County Courthouse on Main Street. Age-group awards will be presented for the 5K and 10K runs.

Registration is available the day of the race beginning at 7 a.m. or online (www.runsignup.com/SummerfestRun) or by mail through July 24 at 5 p.m.

Cost is $20 for the 10K and both 5K races, and $10 for the kids/adult fun run/walk. T-shirts are guaranteed if registration is received by July 18; cost varies from $10 to $15 extra. All proceeds benefit the Dallas Booster Club and Dallas High athletics.
