Rock music festival coming to Independence park

INDEPENDENCE — Are you ready for some rock ‘n’ roll?    Thousands of people are expected to attend the inaugural River’s Edge Music Fest on June 14.    Alex Trevino has been working with promoter Joe Gingerella since January to arrange the show, which will feature the band Lit and American Idol star Kimberly Caldwell. Alex Trevino    Altogether, the festival will feature 20 bands on two stages at Independence’s Riverview Park Amphitheater, Trevino said.    “Nothing of this caliber has ever been done in Polk County,” he said.    The festival will feature music from noon to 11 p.m., closing with a laser-light, EDM show choreographed to techno music at 10.    Those with VIP passes may mingle with the entertainers at an after party at the Elks Lodge from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.    Trevino, an Independence native, said it is important to keep things interesting. He has been in charge of the music in the park summer concert series for three years, and said great entertainment is just what the community wants.    “The community has really taken and gotten behind it, really supported it,” he said.    Having an influx of 4,000 to 5,000 people for a music festival is not of concern to Trevino, who has worked with the Western Days committee for four years.    “We’re used to dealing with 20,000 people on the Fourth of July,” he said. “Security, restrooms, Independence has all the infrastructure to handle that kind of a crowd.”    For more information; To reserve vendor space or be a sponsor, 253-678-3593.
