PEDEE NEWS: Arlene Kovash

The Pedee community’s two biggest summer events have wrapped up.

The day — July 12 — of Dancing Oaks Nursery’s Summer Garden Festival, which supports Luckiamute Valley Charter Schools, sure was hot, but people still came to enjoy the music and buy beautiful arts, crafts and plants. The Pedee School parents’ club served hot dogs and all the trimmings in its booth, and the Pedee Women's Club sold more than 30 different kinds of homemade pies and ice cream in its booth.

Then last week, July 14-18, Pedee Church welcomed more than 20 children to Vacation Bible School, where the kids learned about Jesus through Bible stories involving the sea. The theme, “Gangway to Galilee,” was beautifully carried out through clever decorations; fun crafts, games and songs; and cute snacks, all coordinated by Lyndsey Zarfas. She got good support from her crew, which included Rob Zarfas; Shelly, Andy, Karly and Brady Tarvin; Shandley Hazelton; Daniel, Heidi, Alex and Allana Russell; Jenny Mellein; Chris Bodnovits; Christina Odell; Pesa and Abigail Makalea; Joy and Wyatt Overley; Pam Burbank; Adam and Emily Coe; Josh and Brandon Simons; Lecil Cisneros; and yours truly.

Diane Telfer just got back from Mitchell, east of Prineville, where she was staffing a Red Cross shelter while they had an evacuation due to the wildfire near there. They lifted the evacuation order, so she came home, but then turned right around to go to daughter Helena Christiansen’s home in White Salmon, Wash., to help with Helena and Keith’s new baby, Felix Pascal, who was born July 9.
