Dallas develops new city smartphone app

DALLAS — Want to know what is going on in the city of Dallas? Just pick up your smartphone.

A city of Dallas smartphone app is now available for Android and iPhones, providing users with an easy way to pay bills, report concerns, ask questions, and receive notifications for events and meetings.

“We are very excited about it and looking forward to adding more information, a real opportunity for people to have quick access,” said Ron Foggin, Dallas city manager.

Dallas isn’t stopping with the app in its efforts to use technology to connect with citizens.

Foggin said the city is filming “day in the life” videos in each department and posting them to YouTube, starting last week with highlights from Summerfest.

Foggin said other ideas include attaching a camera to a street sweeper to give people a road’s-eye view of the process and following city employees as they do their everyday jobs.

“We are looking for all kinds of ideas to showcase and let people know what it is like to work in the city,” Foggin said.
