CLASS 5A BOYS BASKETBALL: Dallas earns postseason berth

UPDATE: Dallast lost to Liberty 62-51 on Tuesday.    DALLAS — It may have come down to the wire, but the Dallas High boys basketball team punched its ticket to the postseason.   The Dragons rebounded from a 54-41 loss at Crescent Valley on Feb. 26 with a 73-48 victory against Woodburn on Friday.    The win clinched Dallas’ spot in an OSAA Class 5A play-in game at Liberty on Tuesday after press time.    “I liked the way we played against Woodburn,” Dallas coach Trent Schwartz said. “We pushed the ball and worked to get easy, quick looks out of our fast break. We worked to not have to play against set defenses.”    The Dragons turned a nine-point lead at the half into a lopsided win, outscoring Woodburn 29-8 in the third quarter. Cole Church led four Dallas players in double-digit scoring with 17 points.    Hayden Broadus (13 points), Josh Kibbey (11) and Isaak Tichenor (10) were the others.    “We shot the ball well early against Crescent Valley before we got bogged down, and we took good shots against Woodburn,” Schwartz said. “It’s kind of contagious, and we shot about 50 percent against Woodburn.”   The victory over the Bulldogs served as a little revenge for the Dragons. Woodburn defeated Dallas 58-53 on Feb. 5.    “It’s a good confidence builder,” Schwartz said. “We probably played one of our worst games of the season against Woodburn earlier in the year. We didn’t play up to our potential. … We kind of cleansed that blemish and got a lot of people involved.”
