June Clark and her son, Patrick, took her mom, Betty Forry, to Bentley's Grill in Salem on Jan. 19 to celebrate her 101st birthday. Betty enjoyed her salmon and the cheesecake dessert provided by the manager. They had a great day. Betty has issues at 101, like having to use a walker and not hearing well, but she still cooks her own dinner. Go, Betty! — Amanda Bennett, who is in the Air Force, recently phoned her grandparents, Pete and LaVerne Bennett, from Fort Jackson, S.C., where she is attending school to become a chaplain's assistant. When Amanda finishes training she will be stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. Amanda is the daughter of Jim and Julie Bennett of Salem. — Several friends went to Newport the weekend of Jan. 18-19 to have an extended time to work on projects such as scrapbooking and quilting, plus absorb some of the warmth there. Judy Guida had the use of a condo at Schooner's Landing, so Lynda Schnekenberger, Jennifer Vandenberg, Donna Wernz of Philomath, Suzanne Burbank and I joined her there for a fun, relaxing time. Judy's husband, Sam, came over on Sunday and he and Judy stayed a few days longer. Newport was 15 degrees warmer than Pedee.
