COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: Dallas High grad wraps up big hoops season at NCU

Hannah Frederick of Dallas has been named to the 2014 All-Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s basketball team as an honorable mention selection.   Frederick, a 5-foot-5 junior point guard at Northwest Christian University in Eugene, was the Beacons’ scoring leader this season, averaging 11.9 points per game. She shot 46 percent from the field and led NCU with 111 assists and 54 steals. Frederick started all 28 games for the Beacons and made 126 free-throws on the season, the second highest total in school history.   Frederick set a single-game record with 13 made free throws on Feb. 11 against Warner Pacific College. She scored a season-high 24 points in the season-opening victory against Pacific Union and scored 17 or more points in eight different games.   Frederick, a transfer from Chemeketa Community College, is a 2011 graduate of Dallas High School.   —   Jessica Mitchell of Dallas recently completed her freshman season with the women’s basketball team at Chemeketa Community College in Salem. The 6-foot-1 forward played in all 30 games for the Storm, averaging 7.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. She shot 57 percent from the field and posted season highs of 17 points on two occasions. Mitchell helped lead CCC to an 8-4 record in the South Division of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges and an 18-12 overall mark.   —   Scott Schepige and Kade Fast, two 2013 graduates of Dallas High School, are on the roster of the 2014 baseball team at Linfield College in McMinnville. Schepige is a freshman first baseman/right-handed pitcher, while Fast is a freshman infielder/right-handed pitcher. Also on the Wildcats’ roster as an assistant coach is Dallas High product Jesse Boustead. This is his second year on the Linfield staff.   —   Emily Kenyon of Monmouth is back for her sophomore season with the Columbia University softball team in Columbia, N.Y. Kenyon, a 2012 graduate of Central High School, is one of five pitchers on the Lions’ staff. The right-hander, who earned second team All-Ivy League last season as a freshman, has seen limited action thus far in 2014, appearing in two of the first seven games. She has a 3.50 ERA.   —   The 2014 women’s track and field team at Oregon State University in Corvallis includes two Polk County products. Kaitlyn Mason of Independence, a 2011 graduate of Central High School, is a junior who specializes in the long jump and triple jump for the Beavers, while Bridget Regan of Rickreall, a 2013 graduate of Perrydale High School, is a freshman sprinter for OSU.   —   Three local athletes started their freshman seasons with the 2014 baseball team at Chemeketa Community College in Salem. Austin Bergman, a 2011 graduate of Central High, is a right-handed pitcher; Jake Carter, a 2012 graduate of Central High, is an outfielder; and Keaton Weaver, a 2013 graduate of Dallas High, is an outfielder for the Storm.   —   Kelsey Linn and Sophie Hess of Dallas are on the roster of the 2014 softball team at Chemeketa Community College. Linn, a sophomore, is a second baseman for the Storm, while Hess, a freshman, is an outfielder.
