COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: Omlid having impressive debut season at Army

Tanner Omlid of Monmouth is part of the regular playing rotation for the Army Black Knights men's basketball team this winter.   Omlid, a 2012 graduate of Central High School, is a 6-foot-3 freshman forward at Army. He has played in all 13 Black Knights games to date, averaging 14.8 minutes, 6.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.2 steals per contest. He is shooting 48.5 percent front the floor and 80.0 percent from the free-throw line.   Omlid recorded a career-high six steals, tying for third on the Black Knights' single-game ledger, in Thursday's 85-66 Army victory over Lafayette. He also had 14 points, his second-best scoring output of the season since hitting for 18 points in the season-opener on Nov. 8.   Omlid played at the U.S. Military Academy Prep School in 2012-13, averaging 12.9 points per game.   The Black Knights play in the NCAA Division I Patriot League.   —    Anna Wruck of Monmouth recently completed her junior season with the women's volleyball team at Tulane University in New Orleans. Wruck, a 6-foot-2 middle blocker, played in 99 sets during the 2013 season for Tulane. She recorded 172 kills, 91 total blocks and 17 digs as the Green Wave posted a 28-4 overall season record and advanced to the Conference USA championship match. Wruck is a 2011 graduate of Santiam Christian High School in Adair Village.   —    Hannah Frederick of Dallas is a member of the 2013-14 women's basketball team at Northwest Christian University in Eugene. Frederick is a transfer from Chemeketa Community College, where she played for two seasons. The 5-foot-5 junior guard has played in and started all 13 NCU games to date. She leads the team in scoring, averaging 12.0 points per contest. She is also averaging 4.4 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game. Frederick is a 2011 graduate of Dallas High School.   —    Cody Jones of Dallas is a member of the 2013-14 wrestling team at Southern Oregon University in Ashland. Jones, a 2010 graduate of Dallas High School, is a sophomore for the Raiders. He has been competing at 165, 174 and 184 pounds during the early portion of the season for SOU.   —    Jessica Mitchell of Dallas is having a successful debut season with the women's basketball team at Chemeketa Community College in Salem. Mitchell, a 2013 graduate of Dallas High School, is a 6-foot freshman forward for the Storm. She is averaging 10.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, while shooting 66 percent from the field through her first 15 games this season.   —    Grant Hedrick of Independence just completed his junior season with the Boise State University football team. The quarterback ended the year 167 of 242 for 1,825 yards and 16 touchdowns with five interceptions. He also rushed for 277 yards and five touchdowns. Hedrick was 32 of 44 with one TD pass in the Broncos' 38-23 loss to Oregon State in the Sheridan Hawai'i Bowl on Dec. 24.   —    Jared Webb of Dallas is on the roster of the 2013-14 men's basketball team at Corban University in Salem.
