INDEPENDENCE — Stroll through Independence and get to know the downtown business owners while sipping local wines and tasting hors d’oeuvres Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m. Oregon State Enactus has partnered with Oregon Child Development Coalition to present Wine Down Downtown Independence. The idea is to get people downtown, said Cody Stover, organizer and member of Enactus. This is the fourth Wine Down event the club has organized. People may purchase tickets for $20 in advance or $25 on the day of the event from any of the eight planned stops. Take a wine glass and a map and make your way through downtown, ending with a trolley to Redgate Winery and back. “During your time (downtown), you will get the opportunity to see what’s in the different shops that you might not have seen before,” Stover said. “We want to get local people to meet their local shopkeepers, see what they have, make a connection, and come back to support their neighbors.” Enactus, a club for students trying to make real world social change based on professional development, will donate some proceeds to OCDC, and use the rest to help small business owners with things including marketing, rebranding and other ways to improve business. Where are the stops? River Gallery, Main Street Antiques, Running with Scissors, 2EZ Espresso Café, Artisan Gallery, Independence Hops and Barrel House, Lions Share Bakery and Redgate Winery.
