Head-on crash on Highway 22 claims lives of two individuals

POLK COUNTY — Two individuals were killed Friday night after a head-on collision between a Ford Ranger and a Toyota RAV4 on Highway 22 west of Van Well Road near Dallas.   Cayden Thomas Fitch, 18, of Lincoln City, was driving the Ford eastbound when it pulled into the westbound lane to pass a vehicle and collided head-on with the Toyota, driven by Michael Joseph Moylett, 69, of Gresham.   Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.   Passengers of both vehicles had serious injuries and were transported by ambulance to Salem Hospital: In the Ford, Bryan Fitch, 43, of Lincoln City and father of Cayden; and in the Toyota, Estella Moylett, 61, of Gresham.   Bryan Fitch is an Oregon State Police trooper and was off-duty when the crash occurred.   All involved occupants were using safety restraints and both vehicles’ airbags deployed.   The highway was closed for about six hours with a detour in place provided by the Oregon Department of Transportation.   OSP, Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Dallas Fire Department responded to the scene along with the Polk County District Attorney’s Office and Polk County Medical Examiner.
