Led by a triple double from Catherine Cutsforth, Central defeated Stayton 74-43 on Friday in OWC girls basketball action. Cutsforth scored 13 points while grabbing 10 rebounds and swatting 10 blo-cked shots. She also had five assists during the 31-point win and was one of five Panther players to reach double figures in scoring. Central also beat Taft 60-17 on Jan. 28 as the Panthers improved to 14-2 overall and 3-1 in Oregon West Conference play, as the Panthers traveled to play Newport on Tuesday before a showdown with Philomath, who entered the week undefeated in league play. Philomath defeated Central 52-45 on Jan. 21, but the Panthers are looking to return the favor on the road. FALLS CITY BREAKS LOSING STREAK: After a 42-22 loss to St. Paul on Jan. 28, Falls City rebounded to defeat Willamette Valley Christian 53-26 on Friday. The win broke a five-game losing streak for the Mountaineers. Senior Anna Dixon scored a game-high 23 points and Brittany Varney added 19 points as Falls City improved to 9-8 overall and 3-7 in Casco League play. The Mountaineers play their final two home games of the season, hosting C.S. Lewis Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and Perrydale at 7 p.m. on Monday. Falls City closes its regular season at Country Christian on Tuesday. PIRATES’ WIN STREAK SNAPPED: After a 51-19 win against Jewell on Jan. 28 and a 53-17 win against Crosshill Christian on Friday, Perrydale entered its game against Condon/Wheeler on Saturday with a six game winning streak. But the Pirates saw their streak snapped, losing 53-21. Hannah Mitchell led Perrydale in scoring against Crosshill Christian and Condon/Wheeler, scoring a combined 22 points. But the Pirates failed to score more than seven points in any quarter against Condon/Wheeler. Per-rydale hosted Willamette Valley Christian on Tuesday and travels to play Country Christian on Friday and Falls City on Monday. The team closes out its regular season on Feb. 12 against C.S. Lewis Academy.
