MONMOUTH — The Western Oregon University men’s basketball team has been picked to finish fourth in the annual Great Northwest Athletic Conference preseason coaches’ poll.
The Wolves, who finished 18-12 overall and 10-8 in GNAC play in 2013-14 to tie for fourth place, received 60 total points in voting by the league’s coaches. WOU has four returning starters and nine total letterwinners back from last year’s squad, including forwards Marwan Sarhan and Andy Avgi and guard Devon Alexander.
Western Washington received seven of the 10 first-place votes and garnered 78 points in voting to earn the preseason nod as the team to beat in the GNAC. Alaska Anchorage received one first-place vote and is picked second, while Seattle Pacific received the other two first-place votes and is picked third.
Western Oregon opens its 2014-15 campaign with an exhibition game at Oregon State on Nov. 7.
