CLASS 5A GIRLS SOCCER: Central drops season-opener

EUGENE — Central lost its season-opening match to North Eugene 9-0 on Friday as the Panthers began their first season in Class 5A.

“Many of the goals were mistakes due to inexperience at this level,” Central coach Joe Orozco said. “We need to improve a lot overall to compete at this level.”

The Panthers host Cottage Grove at 6:30 p.m. Thursday as Orozco is looking for the players to learn from Friday’s loss.

“I’m looking for commitment from everyone,” Orozco said. “We need to learn to trust each other, get to know our individual strengths and weaknesses, and build unity amongst the team.”

If that happens, Orozco said Central will see the results on the field.

“I’m expecting them to be more relaxed and not be too nervous,” Orozco said. “If they give it their all, we will see a big improvement.”
