FALLS CITY ROUNDUP: Mountaineers defeat Triangle Lake

BLACHLY — Jeremy Labrado hit Dylan Young for a 54-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to help give the Falls City football team a 24-21 win over Triangle Lake on Friday. Labrado threw for two touchdowns, while Zach Weems rushed for 161 yards and a touchdown to lead the Mountaineers.

Falls City (2-5 overall, 2-1 Special District 3) hosts Alsea Friday at 7 p.m. in the team’s regular season finale.

The Mountaineers are looking to clinch a spot in the league tournament for a chance to go to state.

VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO COUNTRY CHRISTIAN: Falls City’s volleyball squad lost to Country Christian 25-22, 25-20, 25-20 on Thursday. “The girls played their hearts out,” Mountaineers coach Roxi Barnhart said. “We are very happy about the effort they continue to play with. It was a very competitive and intense game from start to finish.” Falls City closed out its regular season Tuesday after press time. The Mountaineers will compete in the Casco League playoff on Saturday. Three teams will advance to the Class 1A state tournament, which begins Oct. 28.
