Sons of Norway to hold picnic

Johan Vineyards will host the Sons of Norway picnic from noon to 1 p.m. on Sunday at the vineyard, 4285 N. Pacific Highway (99W).

All interested in wine, food and meeting “Norwegian cousins” may bring food to share and enjoy fun and games.

Last Chance Dance on Friday

Join The Arc of Polk County for its annual Last Chance Summer Dance from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Join us for an evening of music, dancing, food and games.

This is a free event for all community members, but please remember that supervision is not provided by The Arc of Polk County. If a person needs support, please accompany them and join in the fun.

Free lessons for future guitarists

A free guitar clinic will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday at Dallas Church, 450 SE Washington St., in Dallas.

The clinic is for those aged 10 and older. Participants must bring their own guitar. Donations are accepted.

The clinic will continue on Sept. 10 and Oct. 8.

Dallas Family Night Out next week

Dallas Family Night Out on Aug. 17 at Dallas Methodist Church, 565 LaCreole Drive from 3 to 7 p.m.

Dallas Family Night Out will offer backpacks with school supplies, haircuts, immunizations, well child checkups, a clothing giveaway for the whole family, a free meal, games and prizes and entertainment.

All services are offered for free and Parents should bring proof of Dallas residency.

Sale, trains at Rickreall Grange

The 17th annual Rickreall Grange Community Sale Swap Meet and Flea Market will be Friday through Sunday at the grange, 280 Main St., Rickreall.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. The event is free.

Vendors will have a range of wares on offer, from tools to crafts, sporting goods to model trains.

Model trains will be on display and operating on Saturday. A farmers market will be featured on Sunday.

Breakfast and lunch will be available each day. Cost for meals is $6.

Senior potluck at Dallas center

The Dallas Senior Center will host a senior potluck from 11 a.m. on Aug. 17.

Hot dogs and drinks will be provided. Bring your favorite dish to share.

All are welcome to the potluck, which will be at Dallas City Park.

Deadline today for open class entry

The deadline for the Polk County Fair open class grain, honey, forestry, floriculture and horticulture exhibits are due Wednesday (today) from noon to 8 p.m.

Enter exhibits at the fairgrounds, 520 S. Pacific Highway W., Rickreall. It is free to enter exhibits.

Children’s crafts in Main Street Park

Ash Creek Arts Center hosts an arts and crafts activity during the Monmouth Music in the Park, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., each Wednesday.

The activities are held on the lawn by the amphitheater of Main Street Park. Each week, a different activity is taught by a different instructor.

Fly-in, breakfast at airport Fri - Sun

The Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 292 will host the 2016 Wings Over Willamette, Independence Fly-In and Van’s Homecoming, Friday through Sunday. Admission is free. Food will be available for purchase.

The event is for pilots and land-lovers alike, with workshops and information about flying lessons. Breakfast starts at 7, with events all day.

Register now for craft workshop

Registration is due on Monday by noon to participate in a craft workshop to be held on Sept. 17 at Faith Lutheran Church, 200 Monmouth-Independence Highway on the S-curve.

Learn a new skill, make your own gifts, and help a charity at the craft workshop. Sessions will include card-making, peyote stitch beading, knitting, crochet, paracord bracelets and pillowcase dresses.

Cost is $5. All materials will be provided. Scholarships are available.

Hot August Night cruise-in Tuesday

The city of Dallas’ Tuesdays on the Square event for August will feature classic cars, live music and a special guest.

Guinness World record holding hula hoop performer will be putting on a show.

Local favorite Gusto Brothers will perform live on the Polk County Courthouse lawn.

The event will take place on Southeast Court Street and the Polk County Courthouse lawn from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday. For more information: 503-831-3502.

Model airplane club to meet

The Dallas Windingers Radio Control Model Airplane Club will celebrate national model aviator day Saturday at 9 a.m. at Wingdinger field, 1833 SE Miller Ave., Dallas. Demos of radio control flying will be available and free contests with prizes for kids 8-18 years old. Food will be available for purchase.
