Pedee Church’s pastor, Daniel Russell, was ordained along with four other ministers at the Pacific Conference of the Evangelical Church annual meeting on July 20 at Valley View Evangelical Church, near Portland. His wife, Heidi, joined him for the ceremony as they were prayed for and commissioned by denominational and local church leaders. Previous Pedee Pastor Mitch Lee, Pam Burbank, and Tim Barnhart also participated in the ordination. Daniel’s parents, Jerry and Phyllis Russell, and Heidi’s parents, Jon and Linda Hovet, attended with other friends, Eric Schwanke, Scott Castle, and Matt and Nicole Roby. Daniel had been licensed as a pastor and, as such, had to be reaffirmed annually by a vote of the “elders” — the ordained ministers. Now he is one of those elders.

Dave and Suzanne Burbank’s son, Brennan, took his PE (professional engineering) test a few weeks ago and passed (on his first try, with a lot of hard study), so this last week he received formal notification that he is now a licensed engineer. He works for the Oregon Department of Transportation. He, his wife, Callie, and two kids live in Independence.

On July 19, I took Polish friends, Jacek Szalkowski and Mia Lewanczyk, to see beautiful Multnomah Falls, and Jacek proposed to Mia on the bridge there! Of course the place was packed with tourists, which didn’t stop Jacek, so as he presented her with a diamond ring, the crowd cheered and clapped and wished them well. They’ve seen a lot of Oregon at this point, but I suspect Multnomah Falls will be first in their hearts.

Last Friday, Judy Guida and Jennifer Vandenberg participated in Disney’s “Virtual 5K Run,” which means they sign up to run a 5K where they wish and then receive a medal for doing so. They ran theirs on Pedee Creek Road. Virtual 5K runs are on the honor system, but I can’t imagine the point of signing up and then cheating.

Joe and Jackie Guida visited Judy Guida for several days this month. The neighbors taught Joe and Judy to drive their tractor, so they got a lot of work done around the barn and pastures. While he was here, they went to Portland to see the Cavalia Horse Show in Portland, a magical experience for them all.

A big thank you to Allison Barnhart and Jennifer Mellein and all of people that contributed to loving a giggly, bouncy, group of little kids at Vacation Bible School last week. Themed “Deep Sea Discovery — God Is With Me Wherever I Go,” VBS was fun from start to finish.
