Dallas swimmers turn in best times

ALBANY — Dallas High School swim team earned its first event victories of the season Jan. 23 in a three-way meet against South Albany and Marist.

Gabe Applegate took first in the 500-meter freestyle in a time of 6 minutes, 9.20 seconds, a 45-second improvement. Then the boys 200 freestyle relay team of Applegate, Jakob Lloyd, Hans Garrison and Isaiah Dressel finished ahead of the field in 1:54.46.

The team turned in seven total season-best times to finish ahead of Marist in the team standings.

Lloyd placed second in the 100 freestyle in 1:01.93, an improvement of 5.29 seconds. Dressel took second in the 200 freestyle in 2:27.5, cutting more than 12 seconds off his time, and improved by 0.4 seconds in the 100 freestyle. Garrison posted a 1:14.63 in the 100 freestyle, a 0.14 second improvement. The boys 200 medley relay team also posted a season best.

Up next for Dallas swimmers is the district meet on Feb. 9-10.

WRESTLING TEAM TAKES SECOND AT FARM CITY: The Dallas wrestling team sent competitors to three tournaments last week, finishing fourth in a 15-team event at Sandy High School and second at Farm City Invitational in Hermiston.

First-place finishers in Hermiston were: Cael Morrison (106), Dawson Barcroft (126), Joe Foster (132), and Treve Earhart (182). Second-placers were Bryce Jordan, Ashton Brecht, Joe English, and Nick Nelson. Placing third were Copper Hise and Dylan Dupas. At Sandy High School, Jacob Jones (145) and Haydn Miller (113) took first. Alex Lavier (120) and Cameron Redding (170) placed second. Isaiah McIntosh (152), PJ Holgate (160), and Bryce Miller (138) all took third. Kimmy Holgate competed at the girls state qualifier in Thurston, but was one match win shy of making it to state. She finished fifth out of 19 in the 100-pound class.
