Local dance group takes first

DALLAS — The Xtreme Dance Company’s Elite Team won three first place trophies at the West Coast Elite Nationals in Long Beach, California on Saturday . The Xtreme Elite team is made up of 15 girls, ranging from second to eighth grades. The trophies were for All Star Jazz, All Star Contemporary, and Top Over All Jazz in the All Star category.

The Xtreme Elite earned a chance to perform their Jazz dance routine in the Gala Award Show including the top teams from Oregon, California and Utah.

Western runners post best marks

SALEM — Western Oregon track and field team posted a number of career best marks and a school record at the Willamette Invitational in Salem on Saturday.

Parker Marson topped the field in the 1,500-meter run with a career-best 3:57.24. The women’s 1,600-meter relay team turned in a meet-winning and school record time of 3:49.89. The quartet of Megan Rose, Grayson Burke, Suzanne Van De Grift, and Olivia Woods toured the track more than a full second faster than Simon Fraser’s 3:51.11 to take gold. The time erased the team’s 2011 former school record mark of 3:51.07.
