WOU baseball defeats Concordia

PORTLAND — Western Oregon University won a double-header Saturday and split two games on Sunday in a four-game series against Concordia on their opponent’s home field.

Edging the home team 1-0 in an 11-inning affair in the opener, Western Oregon (12-4 Great Northwest Athletic Conference, 12-11 overall) came back with an 11-0 win in the nightcap to take the first two games of a four-game series against Concordia University at Porter Park on Saturday.

Closing out the series with a 1-hit performance by starter Craig Grubbe, Western Oregon posted a Sunday split with a 4-3 loss and a 2-0 win over Concordia. Thursday’s home game against Lewis-Clark State College was canceled due to rain and muddy field conditions. The Wolves are at home this weekend with a two-game series Friday and Saturday against conference opponent Northwest Nazarene.

WOU SOFTBALL SPLITS WEEKEND GAMES: After falling by a 4-3 score to Dominican (Calif.) in the opener, Western Oregon University (3-4 GNAC, 15-14 overall) softball rebounded with a 4-3 win over host Warriors from Stanislaus State in the nightcap in the opening day action at the Tournament of Champions on Friday.

Held to three hits, WOU fell to CSU Monterey Bay, 9-1, in Saturday’s action at the tournament.

On Sunday, WOU defeated San Francisco State, 8-1, before falling to No. 3-ranked Chico State, 2-0, to close out action at the Tournament of Champions.

WOU is on the road this week, playing conference games against Saint Martin’s University on Saturday and Central Washington on Sunday.
