Covering Dallas, Monmouth, Independence, Falls City and surrounding areas since 1868
February 07, 2012
Bright, yellow daffodils are beginning to make their appearance -- from well-tended gardens in MI Town, to local shops and stores and even along roadsides and in farmers' fields all around the area. And for those of us who are trying to be optimistic after so many dark and rainy days, these first signs of springtime are a wonderful and most welcome sight.

February is also the month of all things valentine, and pretty hearts, flowers and cards can go a long way to brighten up a cold winter's day and keep us smiling for weeks to come.
This is also National Chocolate Month, which I'm happy to celebrate all year long. Members of Central Lions Club are selling See's Candy, which will make a valentine celebration even better. Proceeds from these goodies will go to help funding with many community projects in MI Town.
Contact Lyn Jobe at 503-661-3648 or ask any Lion member for more information. Deadline to order is Thursday in order to have delivery by Valentine's Day.

Are there any amateur detectives out there who can help me find Eileen?
My sister, Suzie Bruce, recently sent me two postcards (one postmarked: Tacoma, WA 1912) that she found at an antique sale, held far from MI Town. The cards were addressed to Miss Eileen Hewitt, RFD, Monmouth, Oregon. Mrs. Walker wished Eileen a happy birthday, and Bertha sent her wishes as well.
