Many thanks to Polk County's excellent road crew, which whipped Pedee Creek Road back into shape after all that rain. It looks great, if not a tad narrower in spots.

Ethelene Osgood's mother, Dortha Minshall, died Jan. 23. Dortha, 95, had lived in Monmouth for several years before moving to a nursing home in Dallas.

Dortha often participated in Pedee Women's Club activities before she was unable to come any longer. After her service in Silverton on Friday, family and friends gathered at the clubhouse.

Contributions in her honor are suggested to the Pedee Women's Club Soldiers Account, c/o 11895 Kings Valley Highway, Monmouth, OR 97361.

Charlotte Barkdoll's house did sell, so she moved at the end of January to Prairie City, where her daughter Terri Wheeler and family lives. Terri completely organized her move, coming down to help her pack, then having her house ready at the other end.

The Pedee Women's Bible Study had a farewell party for Charlotte on Jan. 20.

She worked at Kings Valley Store for many years and was active in the Pedee Women's Club, so she has many friends here who will miss her.

Last week Trina Brotherton invited Amber Lee and daughter Aria to come over and witness the birth of twin goats, a little black female and gray male. Amber was impressed with how easy it was for a mother goat to give birth. The kids -- including Aria -- are doing well.

Brennan Burbank, son of Dave and Suzanne Burbank, will start his new job as a civil engineer for the city of Dallas at the end of the month. He and his wife, Callie, are very excited about the job as they have a new baby, Annabelle Rose, and working at the mall just wasn't going to allow Callie to stay home with her.
