June 20, 2012
On Sunday, June 10, Pastor Mitch Lee announced that Daniel Russell has been chosen to take over the pastorate when he leaves in August or September. Daniel and his wife, Heidi, and children, Allana, 7, Alex, 5, Abigail, 2, and Aliyah, 10 months, have lived in Pedee for more than two years now.
Daniel is currently a project coordinator for legislators at the state capitol in Salem. He and Heidi are both native Oregonians. We are excited to have Daniel serve our church as pastor! Mitch will work with a group in Corvallis, and will move there.
Planning is underway for this year's Vacation Bible School, which will be August 6-10 at Pedee Church. Lyndsey Zarfus is coordinating VBS and needs helpers and suggestions for the event.
Pedee Church is in great need of a kids church teacher for 4- to 8-year-olds for this next year. Jenny Mellein has done an amazing job this past year, and we thank her for her leadership.
There will be a Family Fun Day at the Kings Valley Charter School on July 29, at 2 p.m. The whole community is invited. There will be games, inflatables, face painting and other activities, as well as popcorn, snow cones, and other goodies.
Dave LaVoie and his daughter, Marylou, went to Minnesota to visit relatives for 10 days, traveling by train for the first time. It was a beautiful and relaxing trip, and a good way to go.
Carla Burbank had knee replacement surgery and is now recovering at the Dallas Retirement Village Health Care Center. She may be there for a while, so she's looking forward to having visitors. If you have time, she'd love to see you. Mary Jones is also still there and loves company, too.
Gene and Carolyn Hall welcomed a new great-granddaughter on Friday, June 15. Rylee Jane Taylor was born to Chris and Jackie Taylor of West Salem. Her grandparents are Gene and Carolyn's daughter Debbie and Doug Strange. This is the Halls' seventh great-grandchild.
