Pedee Church lost a member and gained a member this last week.

Pat Lyday, 84, died on June 8 of cancer, while Daniel and Heidi Russell's fifth child was born June 9.

Pat grew up in Pedee and graduated from Pedee High School, which is now part of Luckiamute Valley Charter Schools. Her husband, Junior, grew up in Kings Valley and since all the kids from the two communities knew each other, she and Junior were friends from an early age before getting married in 1947.

They lived in a house behind the Kings Valley Store for a year while building the house they lived in for the rest of their married life, except for six years when Junior worked in Las Vegas.

Pat loved children and her family figured she baby-sat at least 65 kids in the community at one time or another, including my grandchildren, Brennan and Derek Burbank.

Pat's memorial service is tentatively set for June 29 at Pedee Church.

Arwyn Gabrielle, born to Daniel and Heidi Russell, weighed in at 5 pounds, 7 ounces. Her sister Allana and brother Alex were excited to witness the home birth. Sisters Abby and Aliyah stayed with Pam Burbank, however.

Sam Guida got quite a shock for his 76th birthday last week, when his son, John, who lives in Houston, Texas, and niece, Jackie Trussell, who recently moved to Portland, appeared at the breakfast table that day. Sam said it was a good thing he has a good heart. They celebrated his birthday with neighbors Bob and Lynda Schnekenburger and Lynda's brother, Steve Teets of Spokane, after going to dinner with friends Jim and Kathy Alexander. John and Jackie visited for several days before heading home.

Brennan and Callie Burbank had their second child on Friday, an 8-pound, 7-ounce, boy named Jake. Grandparents Dave and Suzanne Burbank and Andy and Jackie Liner of Dallas were glad to see him finally show up -- a week late.
