Judy Stuck, a teacher at Morrison Alternative School, was presented the Dallas Distinguished Educator Award for April during a recent schoolwide assembly. Stuck, shown here assessing student projects on Monday, was nominated for the honor by Cameron Steptoe and Scott Autry, two of her students. Among the comments at the award presentation: "She deserves this award not only for her outstanding teaching ability, but for her desire to have all of us reach out highest potential.

Spring book sale
slated at library
Friends of the Monmouth Library will hold its annual spring book sale Thursday through Saturday.
The event features an assortment of next-to-new books, including novels, fiction, children's books, classics, paperbacks and everything in between.
The sale begins Thursday for members only (you can join at the door) from 5 to 7 p.m. Sales to the public are scheduled Friday from noon until 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Monmouth Public Library is located at 168 S. Ecols St.

luncheon is Friday
A citywide Christian Women's Spring Luncheon is planned Friday at noon at First Christian Church, 1079 SE Jefferson St., Dallas.
Speaker for the event is Gail Saxowsky, acting coordinator of the Polk Community Free Clinic. An offering will be accepted during the luncheon. Funds will be donated to Trinity Lutheran Church for the Polk Community Free Clinic and to Weekday School of the Bible.
Everyone is welcome. Those planning to attend are asked to bring a salad. Beverages and rolls will be provided.

The International Club at Western Oregon University will host its annual International Night on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.
The evening will include performances by students and community members, a global fashion show and a dinner highlighting cuisine from around the world.
The event will be held in the Pacific Room of the Werner University Center on campus, 345 N. Monmouth Ave. Tickets are $6 for students and seniors and $10 for the general public.

Church mission trip
Grace Community Church is conducting a silent auction fundraiser on Friday beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the church, 598 E. Ellendale Ave., Dallas.
A number of items will be available to bid on and there will be a raffle for a Traeger grill. Raffle tickets are $1 each and can be purchased through the church office until the end of the auction.
Admission is $5 per family and includes dessert. All proceeds help youths attend this summer's church mission trip.

Monmouth Senior Center will host its monthly all-you-can-eat community breakfast fundraiser on Saturday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Cost is a suggested donation of $6 per person, $3 for children under 12. The meal includes pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, and orange juice, coffee and tea.
Proceeds benefit the Monmouth Senior Center building expansion fund. The center is located at 180 S. Warren St.

Garden club to hold
annual plant sale
Monmouth Garden Club will hold its annual plant sale Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Monmouth Public Library, 168 S. Ecols St.
Club members have donated a variety of materials that will be available for purchase, including landscape perennials, trees, shrubs, bulbs, annuals, herbs and house plants. Proceeds raise funds for community beautification projects.
Monmouth Garden Club members will also be available to answer plant and gardening questions.

Model train event
slated in Rickreall
A model train show and swap meet will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Rickreall Grange Hall, 280 Main St. (99W), Rickreall.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. It will feature model trains and operating trains. Food will be available for purchase.
Saturday admission is $5. Attendees can get in for $1 with a donation of a canned food item. Sunday admission is free with a donated canned food item.
Vendor space is also available. Cost is $20 for a 6-foot table.

Activity night for
Trinity Lutheran Church and its Totally Terrific Kids' Day Committee are hosting a Cinco de Mayo and Game Night event for youths Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m.
The event at the church, 320 SE Fir Villa Road, Dallas, is for children from preschool through fifth grade. It will include singing and dancing, crafts, board games, pinata breaking and a taco dinner.
There is no cost for children to participate.

The annual All-School Reunion Luncheon for those who attended Independence High School will be held Aug. 17 at 11 a.m. in the multipurpose room at Henry Hill Elementary School, 750 S. Fifth St., Independence.
Catered by North Dallas Bar & Grill, the cost of this year's event is $15. Reservations must be made by July 31.
