DALLAS -- The Dallas Sounds of Summer Concert Series will soon return for its 2013 season, once again providing free outdoor concerts to your local entertainment menu.

"We have a really good lineup this year, some of the acts have been here before and we have a few new ones," said John Swanson, a city of Dallas planner who coordinates the Thursday evening concert series.

Among the acts familiar to Dallas audiences are: Joe Shinkle and 99 West; Graber, Souter and Rupp; and, it wouldn't be Sound of Summer without Johnny Limbo and the Lugnuts.

Swanson said he's excited to bring in newbie The Oregon Valley Boys, an old-time country act, and second-year performer Johnny Martin, described as a "classic American crooner" in the style of Frank Sinatra.

"He's a great performer and great singer," Swanson said.

The shows begin July 11 at the Rotary Performing Arts Stage at Main and Academy streets in downtown Dallas and continue for eight consecutive weeks. Keeping with tradition, Johnny Limbo and the Lugnuts will close out the series on Aug. 29.

As in years past, a community benefit concert and food drive will be held, this season on Aug. 22, but this year food donations will be collected at each show on behalf of Dallas Emergency Food Corp.

Concessions for the season will be offered by the Dallas High School basketball program, which will sell hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks and candy starting at 6 p.m. and remain open until the show closes.

Swanson noted the 2013 lineup offering a variety of styles -- from rock `n' roll to old-time country -- will have something for everyone.

"We are going to have a great season," he said. "It's really a good, fun, safe place to hear live music."

Sponsorships are still available for businesses or individuals. For more information: 503-831-3571.
