On behalf of the entire Monmouth Police Department staff, I would like to thank the citizens of Monmouth for passing the bond measure to finance a new police station.

'Family Night Out'

a huge success

I wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude and thank everyone who helped make Thursday's Dallas Family Night Out a huge success.

This started out as an idea that I had; I wanted to have a block-type party for all families in the community to come and have a fun-filled night out and be able to receive valuable resource information regarding what is available in our community. I didn't want families to spend any money doing this; sometimes at fairs or carnivals, children are unable to throw balls at the dunk tank or jump in the bounce house because there was a cost involved.

With the help of our founding committee we were able to let families come and have a good time, listen to music, have a free dinner and play as a family.

I want to take this time to thank Celina Davila at Polk Community Development Corporation for being my co-chairwoman and the 501c3, Michelle Bornfleth from Service Integration for organizing the providers, Wayne and his crew at James2 Community Kitchen for providing great food and service, Jeremy Hajdu-Paulen and the Dallas United Methodist Church for the venue and his calm and patient demeanor, Ken Braun from VORP and his ability to make things happen, Gnosis for providing music, Shane and Jim Rodriguez for their hard work and dedication, and, of course, West Valley Housing Authority for allowing me the time to work on this event.

Thanks also goes to the community for their generous donations, the commissioners for their support, for the 100 volunteers, Fire and Rescue who opened their hearts and vehicles to show children it's not too scary ... the list just goes on and on.

I am very proud to be part of the Dallas community.
