POLK COUNTY -- The Oregon Department of Forestry, Dallas Fire Department, SW Polk Rural Fire Protection District, Polk County Fire District No. 1, Amity Fire District and Sheridan Fire District have announced a countywide burn ban has gone into affect in Polk County.

This burn ban encompasses all agricultural burning without a special permit through the Oregon Department of Forestry, backyard burning and general residential burning within burn barrels.

The burn ban will continue throughout the summer months, likely until the month of October.

Fire departments and fire districts within Polk County are asking residents to be careful when using open flame materials for work or recreational purposes this year.

There were several fires started last year in Polk County that resulted from individuals not taking care of open flame materials while working and engaging in recreational activities.

Use plenty of water or other extinguishing agents before you leave a fire unattended.

Different districts and departments can hand out citations if residents do not adhere to the regulations set forth by their fire department or fire districts.

For more information, contact your local fire department or fire district.
