POLK COUNTY -- Heavy rains, melting snow and high water is resulting in a number of road closures and other issues in and around Polk County today (Thursday).
Luckiamute Valley Charter School south of Dallas is sending students home at 11:30 a.m. due to rapidly rising water levels on the Little Luckiamute River near the school.
"We've been gauging the river," said LVCS Business Manager Tammy Pryce. "It takes a lot of coordination to let parents know, so we are erring on the side of caution. It's not flooding, but it's up over the bank and starting to come toward the parking lot."
Buses will be dropping off students at their usual stops between noon and 12:20 p.m., she said.
Pryce said parents should monitor the Dallas School District website Friday morning to find out if the school will remain closed.

The Central School District has canceled all afternoon and evening activities scheduled Thursday.
In Dallas, Kingsborough Park, Dallas City Park and the Rickreall Creek Trail System are closed due to high water.
The city has opened two sand bag stations for residents at Dallas High School, in the parking behind the Auxiliary Gym on Southeast Ash Street, and at Lyle Softball Complex on West Ellendale Avenue.
As of 11 a.m. Thursday, Polk County Public Works noted the following road closures:
* Riddell Road is closed between Hoffman to the WOU campus.
* Van Well Road is closed from Highway 22 to Starr Road to Beck Road.
* Helmick Road is closed from the Monmouth city limits to Stapleton Road.
* Black Rock Road near Falls City is closed from Mitchell Road; Weyerhaeuser has opened the gate for access at Socialist Valley Road.
* Rickreall Road is closed from Morrow Road to Greenwood Road.
* Dejong Road is closed from the bridge north to the county line.
* Airlie Road is closed at Maple Grove at both ends.
* Ira Hooker road near Pedee is closed.
* Rickreall Road is closed from the dairy to Greenwood Road.
* Elkins Road is limited to one lane and closed near Zumwalt.
* Buena Vista Road is closed at the Benton County line.
* 55th Avenue at Highway 22 in West Salem is closed.
In addition to these closures, a number of roads and highways have issues with high water and water running over roads. Among them: Highway 22 in the West Salem area and Kings Valley Highway (Highway 223) near Milepost 17 in the Pedee area.
