DALLAS -- Several streets in downtown Dallas will be closed to traffic or will have only limited access today through Friday because of a resurfacing project.

The affected areas are:

* Academy Street between Jefferson and Main streets.

* Court Street between Church and Jefferson streets.

* Church Street between Court and Washington streets.

* Washington Street between Hayter and Main streets.

All lanes on Court, Church and Academy streets will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today through Friday. Washington street will be closed to one lane of traffic during work hours.

Construction crews with North Santiam Paving Co. will begin grinding and paving today.

There will be no parking on these streets during construction. Dallas Public Works Department is asking motorists to use side streets for access.

The project will cost about $190,000, with funding coming from the city and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

"The money is only for collector and arterial streets," said Tom Gilson, city engineering supervisor. "Dallas doesn't have a funding source for residential streets."

Construction should conclude by Friday, weather permitting, officials said. For more information: 503-831-3562.
