Falls City group slates fundraiser

FALLS CITY -- The Falls City Parent Group will host a baked potato feed and silent auction fundraiser Friday evening at the Falls City Community Center.

The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at the center, 320 N. Main St., and is open to the public. It will include a full baked potato bar, silent auction, raffle prizes, a bake sale, Falls City Mountaineer gear and karaoke.

Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Proceeds benefit and help fund student activities.

Polk students make OSU honor roll

CORVALLIS -- A number of Polk County residents qualified for inclusion on the 2012 spring term scholastic honor roll at Oregon State University.

Students must maintain a grade-point average of 3.5 or better and carry at least 12 graded hours of course work to qualify.

Central grad receives scholarship

MONMOUTH -- Jordan Huffman of Monmouth is one of four students awarded a $1,500 First Community Founders Scholarship by First Community Credit Union. A selection committee judged applicants based on academics, leadership, accomplishments and citizenship. Huffman, a 2010 graduate of Central High School, is a student at Western Oregon University majoring in medical sonography.

Independence resident earns grant

INDEPENDENCE -- Margarita Carrillo of Independence was awarded a $750 scholarship from SEIU Local 503. SEIU Local 503 awarded 48 scholarships and awards totaling $25,000 this year through a member scholarship program. The scholarship program is funded through member dues and donations. Carrillo is an environmental science major at the University of Oregon in Eugene.

Colby College honors local student

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Malia L. Kawamura, a member of the Class of 2014 at Colby College, was named to the dean's list for outstanding academic achievement during the spring semester. Students whose grade-point averages were 3.68 or higher were named to the dean's list. Kawamura is a graduate of West Salem High School.
