INDEPENDENCE -- If you have questions for what's arguably the world's toughest job, you'll get a chance to ask them on Saturday in Independence.

Sig Hansen, captain of the Northwestern fishing vessel and one of the stars of Discovery Channel's hit TV program "Deadliest Catch," will share stories on the perils of crabbing on the Bering Sea, reality-show fame and other topics during a speaking engagement for the River's Edge Summer Series.

The event at the Riverview Park Amphitheater is the only admission show of the season. Tickets can be purchased at the gate, at Indepizza in Independence, Rookies Sports Pub & Eatery in Monmouth, and at Road House 101 in Lincoln City.

The venue will be fenced off for the event. Vendors will serve barbecue, burgers and other meals, and Rusty Truck Brewing Co. will host a beer garden. Attendees will be able to take their drinks throughout the amphitheater seating area.

The moderated program will feature personal footage on a big screen from the crew of the Northwestern that didn't make it onto the "Deadliest Catch." Hansen will also take questions from the audience.

Hansen, who spoke with the Itemizer-Observer via telephone from his home in Seattle on Monday (see story, Page 17A), said he and fellow "Deadliest Catch" captains Jonathan and Andy Hillstrand started speaking tours a few years ago as a response to the deluge of fan mail on their websites.

"You can only see so much on an hourlong program," he said. "This gives a guy the opportunity to come out and sort of get the inside scoop."
