MONMOUTH -- Monmouth Police Department will host National Night Out at Gentle Woods Park in Monmouth on Tuesday.
The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. and is open to all residents of the city.
The department, Polk County Fire District No. 1, the Polk County Citizen Emergency Response Team and area Boy Scout troops will participate. Emergency response vehicles will be on display and officials will hand out information about public safety and services.
The annual National Night Out effort is now in its 29th year. More than 15,325 communities in all 50 states, Canada and military bases around the world will celebrate.
The event is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for anticrime efforts and foster police-community relationships.
Gentle Woods Park is located at the intersection of Olive Way and Myrtle Drive.
