POLK COUNTY -- Rural customers of Brandt's Sanitary Service and Western Oregon Waste will notice an increase in their rates for garbage service this month.
The Polk County Board of Commissioners approved the rate increases Aug. 29 after public hearings on the proposals were held earlier in August.
Western Oregon Waste has increased rates 13.3 percent. The rates will affect 963 customers in Polk County.
Brandt's proposed a 3 percent increase on weekly rates on 95-gallon carts and two-yard containers and a 5 percent increase on all other service. The rate change will impact 392 customers.
Both increases are due to rising costs of offering service, including increased fuel expenses, according to a Polk County staff report on the rate changes.
The increases went into effect Sept. 1.
