New Student Week on tap at Western

MONMOUTH -- Incoming freshmen will invade the Western Oregon University campus on Sunday for New Student Week.

MONMOUTH -- Incoming freshmen will invade the Western Oregon University campus on Sunday for New Student Week.

The orientation program, designed to help newly enrolled students familiarize themselves to the campus, its resources and other offerings, will run through Sept. 22.

Sunday is move-in day and will include a barbecue for new students on the north lawn of Landers Hall at 4:30 p.m.

Workshops on subjects including financial aid, honors programs and stress management are scheduled daily during the week.

Social events will happen nightly. Highlights include:

* A performance by stand-up comedian Arvin Mitchell at 10 p.m. Tuesday at the New Physical Education Building.

* The "Welcome to Monmouth and Independence" Celebration on Church Street on campus at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19.

* A demonstration by hypnotist Chris Pembrose at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, in the Werner University Center.

Events are free for WOU students.
