Covering Dallas, Monmouth, Independence, Falls City and surrounding areas since 1868
October 30, 2012
INDEPENDENCE -- The city of Independence is conducting a survey to determine whether to establish a regional shared-use commercial kitchen.
Officials want input from small business owners and agricultural producers in the surrounding area who would utilize shared production space, machinery and knowledge to develop food products for public distribution and consumption.
Potential users include small-batch food producers, farmers market vendors, caterers, personal chefs, food truck operators and more.
Small or new businesses often face overwhelming start-up or operational costs that hinder their success, said Marie Trucco, executive director of the Greater Independence Business Incubator.
Partnerships to create a shared-use facility are in the works, but the survey will help document the need and interest, Trucco said.
