DALLAS -- A motorcycle rider participating in the Dallas Winterfest celebration on Friday was injured in a collision prior to the event, according to the Dallas Police Department.

The accident took place at 6:12 p.m. near the East Ellendale Avenue entrance to Walmart, Deputy Police Chief Tom Simpson said.

Charles Richardson, 40, of Dallas was operating a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and was to be part of a procession of bikers escorting Santa Claus to the Polk County Courthouse for the annual community tree-lighting ceremony.

Richardson was headed toward a staging area at LaCreole Middle School and passed in front of the Walmart as Kelli Myers, 55, of Dallas was leaving the store's parking lot in a 2008 Toyota.

Myers' vehicle brushed the left mirror and side of Richardson's motorcycle as she pulled into the eastbound lane, which caused Richardson's bike to tip over onto its crash bars on its right side, Simpson said. Myers continued on her route.

Richardson was transported to Salem Hospital, treated for non-life threatening injuries and released. Officers located Myers at her residence the following morning.

Simpson said she cooperated fully and that she didn't see Richardson's motorcycle or realize that she had made contact with it.

No citations have been issued.
