INDEPENDENCE -- Polk County Fire District No. 1, in conjunction with Safe Kids Willamette Valley, will host a child passenger seat safety clinic on Saturday.
The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Central Station, 1800 Monmouth St., in Independence.
Car seat technicians will recommend compatible seats that best fit your child and car, and determine if your current car seat or booster is on any current product recall list.
Fire prevention and safety staff will provide fire safety materials and conduct station tours.
The clinic is free, though donations to Safe Kids will be accepted.
The clinic will be the final one coordinated between Polk No. 1 and Safe Kids, said Operation Chief Neal Olson.
"This is one of several `injury reduction' programs that have been administered by the fire marshal's office that will be discontinued due to staffing and budget reductions in the fire district," Olson said.
Polk No. 1 announced last week that it will eliminate its fire marshal position effective Jan. 11.
