DALLAS -- Looking to get into the spirit of the season? The Guthrie Park Community Center might just be the place for you come Friday night.
Guthrie Park will host its 24rd annual "Sounds of Christmas" community concert and fundraiser Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The event at the Guthrie Park Community Center, 4320 Kings Valley Highway, about three miles south of Dallas, is open to the public.
Admission is free (tax-deductible donations will be accepted), but seating is limited. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. for the old-fashioned Christmas celebration, one of Guthrie Park's most popular events of the year.
Festivities include live holiday music performed by Dave Curry, Alan Ede, Sarah Headings, Jim Hockenhull and Cash & Company. There will also be a holiday singalong and Santa Claus is scheduled to make an appearance.
Refreshments, including coffee, tea and punch, will be available.
Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the event for a variety of gift items, including handmade wooden rocking horses, a train set, tools, toys, a Soda Stream homemade soda maker and more. Tickets cost $1, $5 or $10 each, with specific prizes associated with each type of ticket. Raffle tickets are only sold at the event and you must be present to win.
Proceeds from the raffle go toward the maintenance and operation of Guthrie Park, a nonprofit 501-c organization that oversees operation of the community meeting and gathering place.
