Event set to connect needy with resources

INDEPENDENCE -- Polk County will host the second Polk Community Connect at Calvary Chapel Church in Independence on Jan 30.

INDEPENDENCE -- Polk County will host the second Polk Community Connect at Calvary Chapel Church in Independence on Jan 30.

The event connecting those in need, homeless individuals and families, or those at risk for homeless with resources and services will start at 9:30 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. The church is located at 1399 Monmouth Ave.

In 2012, more than 500 people were served at the first Community Connect event hosted in Polk County. This year, guests will be able to meet with representatives from employment, housing benefits, counseling, and children and family agencies.

Dental service (first come, first served), health screenings, pet care, haircuts and bike repair will also be available. Food will be served all day.

Free transportation to and from the event is available at the following locations:

* Dallas -- Academy Building, 182 SW Academy St., at the Main Street side entrance.

* Falls City -- Falls City Community Center, 320 N. Main St.

* West Salem -- Polk County Mental Health Office, 1520 Plaza St. NW.

Estimated departure times from each location are: 7:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Return trips will leave the event at: 8 a.m., 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
