Covering Dallas, Monmouth, Independence, Falls City and surrounding areas since 1868
February 19, 2013
RICKREALL -- OK, technically it's still winter.
But with spring on the way -- soon, we hope -- it's time to think about taking on those home improvement projects on your to-do list or maybe spruce up the backyard for the here-before-you-know-it barbecue season.
Don't know where to start?
The 2013 Polk County Home and Garden Show taking place at the Polk County Fairgrounds & Event Center in Rickreall this weekend may be just the answer.
Featuring more than 50 exhibitors specializing in kitchen remodels, home heating and cooling systems, spas, furniture, appliances, flooring, interior painting, patios, garden care, and even home organization -- chances are the home and garden show has you covered.
Exhibitors will have their latest and most innovative products on display.
"People will see a whole range of home remodeling projects and ideas for the garden," said Deb Thomas of Polk Productions, which coordinates the event.
Last year, the event saw a large increase in attendance, with 2,000 people stopping to browse through the exhibits during the show's three days.
This year, there will be even more to see, Thomas said.
In addition to the regular vendors, there are a few new -- and unique -- exhibitors joining the show this year. Among the newcomers are Damsel in Defense, selling personal protection products, and The Wellness Company, which makes nontoxic household cleaning products.
The always popular NW "G" Railroad Club will again be setting up a model train in the garden at the fairgrounds.
Food will be provided by Sunrise at Your Fair, serving breakfast and lunch, with daily specials.
Admission is free.
