Foundation to present local grants
DALLAS -- The Dallas Community Foundation will award grants to 22 local nonprofit organizations at a presentation scheduled Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Dallas Public Library.
The foundation will award $30,000 in grants for a variety of projects benefiting youths, seniors and those in need.
The public is welcome to attend the event, which will also recognize the work of local nonprofit organizations.
The Dallas Community Foundation was established in 1995 by a group of local residents to benefit the people of the Dallas area. In addition to an annual distribution of funds to local nonprofits, the foundation administers a number of scholarship funds. The group's financial support for local nonprofit organizations is only possible through the generous giving of the Dallas community.

'Witness to Innocence' talk slated
MONMOUTH -- Community members are welcome to hear from two men sentenced to die for crimes they didn't commit during a special "Witnesses to Innocence" presentation at Western Oregon University on Thursday.
Roberto Melendez-Colon and Greg Wilhoit, who spent a combined 23 years on death row before being exonerated, will share their stories of hope and survival.
Melendez-Colon, exonerated in 2002, was convicted and sentenced to death despite no physical evidence against him.
Wilhoit was arrested and charged in 1986 with the murder of his wife a year earlier. The case against him was based upon a bite mark that "experts" -- recent dental school graduates -- found on the victim's body that matched Wilhoit's teeth.
The event is free and open to the public. It starts at 7 p.m. in Room 105 of the Health and Wellness Center.
