INDEPENDENCE -- Teens and young adults in Polk County are welcome to take part in a high-energy and poignant presentation on the issues that affect them most March 15 at Central High School.
The event, which includes hip-hop dancers, live music and motivational speakers, is produced by Pure Rebellion. The Colorado-based youth program addresses sex, bullying, drugs, alcohol and making good choices that youths struggle with.
The evening is being coordinated by Ashleigh Barry, a junior at Central High. Barry, who's doing this as part of a senior project -- a year early -- said she has been trying to bring Pure Rebellion to Independence for almost a year.
"It's a free event and there are 600 seats in Central's auditorium -- so bring a friend," Barry said.
Barry said she's been doing marketing for Pure Rebellion and the event is open to youths in Dallas, Monmouth, Independence, Grand Ronde and Salem.
The event is aimed at an audience ages 13 to 25. There is no cost for admission.
