EUGENE -- A motorcyclist from Dallas was seriously injured June 19 after being hit by a passing vehicle while stopped on the shoulder of Interstate 5 near Eugene.
According to police, at about 10:40 a.m. Terry Brateng of Dallas had stopped his motorcycle on the right southbound shoulder of the freeway underneath the Harlow Road overpass during a heavy rain storm.
Brateng had gotten off his bike and was walking around the front of the motorcycle when he was hit by a 1990 Honda Accord that had drifted into the shoulder.
Brateng was seriously injured and emergency crews took him to Sacred Heart Medical Center for treatment, police said.
He was listed in fair condition Tuesday morning.
Oregon State Police (OSP) cited the driver of the Honda, Kaitlyn Inman, 20, of Springfield on failure to drive within a lane following an investigation of the accident.
Inman and riders of two other motorcycles pulled over on the shoulder with Brateng were not injured in the accident.
