DALLAS -- Fans of the shuttered Cactus Corral restaurant on East Ellendale Avenue shouldn't despair.

Owner Carl Hoover reopened the Memphis-style barbecue establishment at a new location and under a new name, "Barbeque Shack," earlier this month.

Hoover closed his former location in May because the building proved to be unsuitable for his operation and there was a fair amount of confusion as to what type of food was served. Many patrons stopped in expecting Mexican-style food, due to the name and appearance of the restaurant.

The Barbeque Shack, at 125 SW Washington St., Dallas, while smaller, has proven to be a better fit since the reopening on July 2.

Hoover said Cactus Corral generated a following of loyal customers in the seven months it was open and he received more than a few angry emails about its closure.

He's hoping those same people will give his new establishment a try.

"We are here to stay," he said. "I want to thank the community for their patience and we are glad to be back."

Barbeque Shack is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, with Saturday hours slated to start soon.
