Railroad repairs to detour Highway 99W
RICKREALL -- Those who travel on Highway 99W through Rickreall will encounter a detour through the city of Dallas for most of the day on Tuesday.
The Oregon Department of Transportation will be making repairs to the railroad crossing on Highway 99W just south of the Polk County Fairgrounds & Event Center, making it necessary to divert traffic starting at 6 a.m. and continuing until 8 p.m. or later.
Cars will be redirected from Highway 99W and the following roads will be used as a detour: Orrs Corner Road (which turns into Miller Avenue), Southeast Fir Villa Road, and East Ellendale Avenue.
ODOT will station flaggers to direct traffic at the Fir Villa Road and East Ellendale Avenue intersection in order to facilitate the orderly movement of traffic.
Dallas residents living along or adjacent to Southeast Fir Villa Road can expect a high level of traffic congestion throughout the day Tuesday.
Readiness Center earns design award
DALLAS -- The Oregon Army National Guard Col. James Nesmith Readiness Center in Dallas has been recognized for "exemplary collaboration and integration in project delivery" with a 2013 National Design-Build award.
The award was presented by the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA).
Design-build projects have design and construction services under one contract, instead of separate contracts for each phase.
Judged by a panel of industry experts, the award-winning projects demonstrated advanced and innovative project delivery, achieving budget and schedule goals and exceeding owner expectations, according to a DBIA press release.
Construction on the 40,000-square-foot readiness center, located at 12830 Westview Drive in Dallas, began in June 2011 and was completed in September 2012. The architect was THA Architecture and the contractor was Lease Crutcher Lewis LLC, both of Portland.
