Dancers from near and far will converge on the Uyxat Powwow Grounds in Grand Ronde this weekend to compete for more than $35,000 in cash prizes.

GRAND RONDE -- More than just pride will be at stake during one of the largest powwows in the Pacific Northwest Friday through Sunday.
The annual Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Contest Powwow has more than $35,000 in prize money for contestants.
Held at the Uyxat Powwow Grounds, 9390 Highway 22, the event will feature upwards of 250 dancers competing in 20 categories.
The first Grand Entry is slated for 7 p.m. Friday, following registration at 5 p.m. A royalty coronation will also be held Friday evening.
Saturday's festivities kick off with a parade at 10 a.m., followed by Grand Entries at 1 and 7 p.m. Final deadline for dancer registration is 2 p.m.
The public is welcome to attend this annual celebratory event of Native American culture.
Iron Horse and Young Spirit are the scheduled host drums, while women's jingle and men's grass dance specials will be held as well. Honorary host drums will be The Woodsmen.
Fred Hill has been selected as master of ceremonies, the head judge will be Charlie TailFeathers and Fred Ike Jr. will act as the arena director.
The second annual Youth 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will be held in addition to the dancing events.
Prizes for the Golden Age and Adult categories are $1,000 for first place, $700 for second, $500 for third, $300 for fourth and $200 for fifth.
Teen category prizes are $600 for first place, $400 for second, $300 for third, $200 for fourth and $100 for fifth.
The special women's jingle and men's grass prizes are $800 each for first place with four consolation prizes.
Camping at the grounds will be available for $5, which includes a parking pass, and transportation from Spirit Mountain Casino to the powwow grounds will be provided via shuttle.
There is a strict no drugs or alcohol policy at the event and pets are not permitted.
Various food and craft vendors will be on hand for enthusiasts.
