FALLS CITY -- Saturday's fifth Bad to the Bone festival in Falls City will mark the end of an eventful summer with a bigger-than-ever celebration.
In July, event sponsor Falls City Alliance reached a deal to purchase access to the north side of the Little Luckiamute River falls, closed since 2008, that flows through town.
That development, which the alliance has sought since 2010, will only add to the festive atmosphere that is sure to be buzzing Saturday.
"We will be doing some extra celebrating because we get the falls back," said Janelle Anzalone, spokeswoman for the alliance and Bad to the Bone organizer.
If that wasn't enough for residents to celebrate, Falls City launched another community tradition with the monthly Falls City Sunday Market. The market will make an exception this month with a special Saturday market to coincide with Bad to the Bone.
Bad to the Bone's lineup this year includes the annual barbecue contest, a three-on-three basketball tournament, helicopter rides, and old-fashioned games such as horse shoes, a keg/frying pan toss and a duck race.
Anzalone noted that this year's celebration includes enough live music to fill two stages.
"It's getting bigger every year," she said.
Festivities begin at 10 a.m. in the 400 block of North Main Street, across from The Bread Board, in downtown Falls City and run until 10 p.m.
